Things I wish I knew before I grew up
When I was younger, I always complained about how I wish I could just be an adult already. Little did I know my parents were extremely good at hiding the hard days of the world, called life, as well as the joys in it too, I can dive into that later. But after moving on my own, I came to find that there were different kinds of cheese other than american, swiss, and mozzarella, like gouda, blue cheese, and feta. But other than that here are a list of things that I wish my old self had known as I lived my life.
- Self care is important. You need days to yourself to recharge.
- Be careful about loans, credit cards, and borrowing in general. Always read the fine print. I racked up a good amount of debt before I realized this one. There are things called APR annual percentage rates that rack up how much you owe, which can get pretty pricey fast. I know some may read this and be like you didn't know that? And well yea, previous me in fact was that uninformed.
- Get fresh air. It really is good for you and it can turn your mood around. Now don't go out if it's hazardous weather conditions. Go out on a nice day, use your judgement.
- Spontaneous trips are worth it. If you're ever in a rut, or just feel like your going in a cycle that never ends, change it up. Go uptown or downtown, to the beach, to a store you always wanted to try, an event that's caught your eye, etc. I get that sometimes finances are a huge part in why you chose not to go to a certain event or store, but there are other things you can do without breaking the bank per say like going to the park, or window shopping - this one takes a lot of self control when on a tight budget but you can do it.
- Failure is okay, everyone experiences it in their life, it's how we learn to be better, do better, an improve ourselves. Don't dwell on the fact that it didn't go how you expected, focus on something like is there something I could have done differently? But if you can't find another route, it's okay, you're not broken, it just wasn't meant for you. There is something better ahead, it's a surprise, just keep going and it'll find you before you know it. Life isn't meant to have all the answers.
